Kona Dream Builds: Jo Peter's Hei Hei CR

When Jo Peters builds a Kona Hei Hei, it’s not about playing it safe. It’s about turning an XC rocket into something that still channels a little enduro chaos. As Jo puts it, she’s “still channeling [her] inner enduro shredder on this XC rocket,” and even before she trims a few grams for race season, she says it’s already one of the funnest bikes she’s ever ridden.

Braking is taken care of with a set of Hayes Dominion A4 with 200mm rotors. Yeah, overkill for an XC rig, but holy, the immediate stopping power lets me stay off the brakes and lets the suspension do its magic.

NOBL 35 rims laced to DT Swiss 240 hubs are paired with Maxxis DHF Max Terra front + Continental Trail rear, this setup is glued to the edge, confidence inspiring in every turn while still rolling fast

First time back on clips in 4 years… dusted off the old Shimano SPDs. Wish me luck.

OneUp 180mm. I like to slam the seat low for steep stuff. Perfect fit and feel on the small frame.

The cockpit features a OneUp bar with 35mm rise, which keeps it nimble and playful.

Fast up and playful on the down, even on black trails. This thing rips Squamish tech and still climbs like an XC weapon. I'm obsessed.
